Info about Keri

What is Keri?

Kulttuuriyhdistys Keri ry. is a registered non-political association, with the purpose of arranging a multitude of cultural events and activities for it's members. Kulttuuriyhdistys KERI ry (Cultural Association KERI) is famous for its dance courses, which have been regularly held since mid 80's. Keri's activities cover a wide variety, and it's main thought and theme is to do what we feel like doing. Members are welcome to join in every Keri activity.

Who makes the decisions?

Responsible for Keri's activities is it's board, selected for one year at a time. The board members are picked in the fall meeting, in which every member can vote. Also the spring meeting is open for all members. Time for the fall meeting is generally late November and is usually held in conjunction with the pre-Christmas party. The board meets roughly once a month. You can see the whole board and their tasks from the board page.

The board wishes for ideas and tips from all members of Keri, and also feedback on events and activites organized. Ideas and feedback can be sent directly to the board members via e-mail. All members are also welcome in the practical arrangements of the various courses and events, as well as different sorts of planning groups and such.

Who can join as a member?

Anyone can join and become a Keri member. Most of the members are Tampere University of Technology, Tampere University or Tampere Polytechnic students or young adults in and around Tampere area.

How do you join?

To become a member, you must pay the membership fee, which is 12 euros in the year 2010. This can be paid directly to Keri's bank account 204618-32054 or with cash at any Keri event or activity. When paying with a bank transfer: mark the recipient as Kulttuuriyhdistys Keri and put your name, e-mail address (optional) and post address on the message section. The membership fee covers two half-year periods at a time (fall+spring or spring+fall). You may pay more than one membership at a time with the bank transfer, simply make sure that the amount is right and that the message section has the necessary information for each paying member.

What about membership benefits?

Keri members receive a newsletter via mail a few times a year. This letter covers upcoming events and activities, as well as what's been going on so far. All new members also receive the latest newsletter. The newsletter also has instructions on paying your membership fee and other such vital information. If the member has paid his/her membership, he/she will receive all newsletters without interruption in the "subscription". If you are a Keri member, but for some reason do not receive your newsletter, contact Jussi Lahdenniemi ( jlahd (_at_) iki.fi ) in charge of the membership registry. If your address has changed, you can contact Jussi via e-mail.

Keri members also often receive small discounts on theater and concert tickets, as well as trips and other such 'costly' activities. The weekly activities are mainly free, for example the dance courses, guitar course and sähly. If asked, members are obligated to show their membership cards, which must be stamped and valid. Old members are obliged to have their old cards re-stamped after paying the membership fee anew. The stamp can be received from the president or other board members, new membership cards are already stamped.

E-mail list

The best way to stay in touch with what's going on in Keri is to join it's mailing list. You may do that at this page.

Those on the list receive information on upcoming events directly to their e-mail. The list is mainly used only for Keri events and activities, and all messages to the list go through a "coordinator".

Keri's mailing list is open to all, and you may join even if you're not a member.
